Schoeni Art Gallery presents the second solo exhibition of Chinese calligrapher Huang Shan entitled Images and Scenes.

Huang Shan, was born in 1959. A native of Sichuan, he was determined to become a painter since his childhood. Although he experienced the hardships and stillness of his life as a village carpenter and as a soldier, he did not lose his passion for painting. In 1981, he attended the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts to study traditional Chinese books. Due to his excellent grades, he was retained as a teacher by the academy after he graduated.

Huang Shan has been writing books for many years. Although he used Fu Tong's Chinese technique - fine brushwork - he also admired Western masters such as Van Gogh and Gauguin. Perhaps it was their desire and sacrifice for writing books that moved Huangshan; the training of perseverance to oneself.

Huang Shan's works have been exhibited in the United States and Canada, Japan, Korea, the Philippines and Hong Kong.

The opening date of the exhibition is scheduled for March 5th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. The artist will attend the opening reception in person.
